- What is Latin dancing?
Rhythmic movements danced under the Latin beats characterize Latin dancing. These movements are mainly quick steps and the «cuban» movement of the hips. Latin dances are popular and fun party dances because of their lively music. Examples of Latin dances are mambo, salsa, cha-cha and meringue.
- What is Ballroom Dancing?
Ballroom Dancing is a form of partner dancing where the couple moves in harmony with each other and in a counter-clockwise direction around the dance floor. Ballroom Dancing is based on groups of structured steps and figures that can be combined in an endless variety of combinations. Ballroom Dancing is comprised of dances such as Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz, etc.
- What are the benefits of dancing?
Dancing affects positively one's psychological mood and also helps maintain a good physical condition. Moreover, regular dance training helps in maintaining and/or losing weight, improves flexibility, and reduces stress. At the same time, dancing is a social hobby as it requires lots of good mood and good friends.
- What kinds of dances can I learn?
With few or no dancing knowledge you can learn any type of dance you like, or even all of them! Dances such as Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Quickstep belong to the Ballroom Dances category, while Mambo, Samba, Cha-Cha and Rumba are examples of Latin dances, ideal for dancing parties.
- Do I need a dancing partner?
No. If you don't have a dancing partner, the group lessons are structured in such a way to be able to practice with fellow students and learn the technique. In private lessons, if you don't have a partner, your teacher holds that role.
- What is the best way to learn dancing?
The combination of group and private lessons and additional practice (for example during the weekly parties) is the best way to learn both quickly and efficiently.
- How many lessons should I take in a week?
This depends totally on you. Some students attend classes once a week, some others more frequently. At Alma Latina, we will develop a teaching schedule that fits to your needs and goals.
- I can't dance at all. Will that make me feel uncomfortable?
Of course not. At Alma Latina we do our best to make our students feel at ease with themselves and help them obtain self-confidence by tailoring our instruction to fit their dance level and ability.
- What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothes and soft shoes such as those with leather soles. Training shoes are not recommended.
- Where can I dance outside the studio?
You will have opportunities for dancing anywhere you feel like it! Some examples are at parties, clubs, weddings, corporate functions, other dance school's events, etc.
